A Cap is a predetermined amount by which the interest rate or an amount can increase over a given period of time. Caps can be included with loan instruments such as adjustable rate loans. A cap can also refer to the amount by which property taxes can increase from one year to the next based on specific conditions, such as a homestead exemption.
