Jovio vs. Redfin – a Comparison for Home Sellers

Whether you’re thinking of working with a traditional agent or in search of an alternative, there’s no shortage of options available when it comes to selling your home. But with so many different choices out there, it can be hard to figure out which one is right for you.

Chances are you’ve heard of alternatives like Redfin – whether you’ve used their tools or worked with them in the past. To help you better understand how Jovio and Redfin compare, we’ll explore each of their differences in detail. But before we jump in, let’s give ourselves a refresher on how Redfin works as compared to a traditional brokerage.

How Does Redfin Work?

Similar to working with a traditional agent, Redfin will help you price, list, market, as well as close on your home. The main difference between Redfin and working with a traditional agent though, is pricing. Redfin offers a 1.5% listing fee subject to a minimum depending on what city you’re located in, which can result in a significant cost savings for sellers.

On the other hand, when you work with a traditional brokerage like Jovio, you can expect to pay a listing fee of 3% (although this can be negotiated with your agent) and a total commission of 6% with half of that (the other 3%) being paid out to the buyer’s agent. With Redfin, you’re still required to pay a buyer’s agent fee of 3% which means in total you can expect to pay around 4.5% (more on this later).

While the low fee is appealing to sellers, there are a few drawbacks to working with Redfin as opposed to other alternatives. We’ll dive into these below and compare how working with Redfin to sell your home differs from partnering with a Jovio agent.

Supercharged Marketing to Reach the Masses

When it comes to marketing your home, Redfin offers many of the services that a traditional agent would. You’ll receive professional photos, a for-sale sign, printed flyers, and your home listed on the MLS and local and national real estate websites. They’ll also provide you with a 3D walkthrough of your home, although a traditional agent may offer this as well.

At Jovio, our agents leverage many of the same tactics but take it a few steps further. We've found that in order to get your home discovered by thousands of buyers, you need to do more than just slap a listing up on the MLS. You have to meet potential buyers where they’re already spending their time. That’s why, many of our agent's marketing includes creating targeted digital ads on sites like Facebook, Instagram, and the broader Google Display Network to get your home in front of the eyes of active buyers who are most likely to purchase your home.

When a buyer clicks on these ads, they’re then redirected to a custom landing page made exclusively for your property. Once they’ve landed on that page, they can learn more about your home, get in touch, and schedule a property tour. At the same time, our agents are learning more about their interest in your home by analyzing metrics like how much time they’re spending on the page and where on the page they’re spending that time. At Jovio, our agents have perfected this strategy for marketing properties to attract qualified buyers and get your home sold faster.

Experienced and Trusted Partners

Although Redfin has modern technology and low cost pricing on their side, one of their biggest faults is their agents. One of the top complaints from home sellers who’ve used Redfin is related to the inexperience of the agent they worked with, and working with an inexperienced agent can be detrimental to the sale of your home. After all, selling your home is one of, if not, the largest financial transaction you’ll make. You want to know the agent you’re working with is qualified for the task at hand.

That’s why, at Jovio, we only bring on the best of the best. All of our REALTORS® are experts in their field, so you can be confident you’re always working with the best person for the job.

Not only that, but with years of real estate experience, our agents have seen a thing or two and have the knowledge to help you navigate any challenges you might face along the way. Our agents don’t just list houses for sale, they sell them. In the spring of 2018, our agents sold 96.6% of the homes they listed, whereas Redfin only sold 74.6% of their listings.

Local Market Expertise

In addition to general real estate experience, ensuring your agent is knowledgeable in the market that you’re selling in is imperative. Redfin is a national real estate brokerage and because of this they lack the oversight to ensure the agents they’re hiring are local experts. This means the Redfin agent you’re working with may have never sold a home in your neighborhood, and you don’t want to be the first.

Jovio, on the other hand, prides itself on being an Texas-based real estate brokerage. With REALTORS® from Houston to Austin, we understand the nuances of Texas real estate and its local markets. Our REALTORS® have in-depth knowledge of the neighborhoods that make up our state’s largest metro areas so you can rest assured you’re in good hands.

Fair and Transparent Pricing

Although Jovio's pricing may not match Redfin's low fees, but we believe you get what you pay for. When you partner with a Jovio agent, you’ll typically pay 6%, with 3% going to your listing agent (however, this rate can be negotiated with your agent) and the other 3% to the buyer's agent.

And in an effort to provide our clients with 100% transparency, our agents are always upfront about pricing and the costs associated with selling a home so you know exactly what you’re paying and why.

Unparalleled Service

When it comes to hiring a company or individual to provide you with a service, knowing that they’re trustworthy and reliable is at the top of the list – especially when it comes to selling your home. You want to be confident that the person representing you is there for you when you need them and has what it takes to get you the best possible outcome. At Jovio, we take this very seriously and our agents strive to provide their clients with 110% service for every transaction.

We can’t speak for Redfin, but we’d encourage you to do your own research. When it comes to the sale of your home, you want to make sure you’re working with the best partner. And the best way to gauge that is to do your own due diligence. Go beyond reviews that you’ll find on a company’s website and go straight to the source to see what past clients have had to say about working with them. If you’d ever like to speak directly with one of our clients, our agents are always happy to provide you with referrals.

When you’re selling your home, you may be in search of the best deal, but there’s a lot to consider when choosing the right partner in real estate. While a low price tag may be appealing, inexperience and poor service may be lurking around the corner. We hope this comparison helped you better understand how Redfin and Jovio differ, and if you’re still looking for an agent to help you sell your home, we’d love to help you reach your goals faster and easier. We’d encourage you to learn more about what it’s like to sell your home with a Jovio agent and when you’re ready, we invite you to schedule a complimentary property visit with one of our agents – no strings attached.
